Dear Friend,Dear Friend of Tibet,

I am pleased to report that through the overwhelming generosity of ICT’s community, donations to the Earthquake Relief Fund have surpassed $50,000. The entire ICT team joins me in sending our deepest gratitude to everyone who responded quickly and generously during this time of need.

As I mentioned in my previous e-mail, 100% of donations made to this fund are going to established organizations doing emergency relief work in the affected region.

After consulting with people in Nepal, including Tibetans, as well as our Board of Directors, some of whom have connections with organizations working currently in Nepal, we have selected several Nepal based organizations as the recipients of the donations made to ICT’s Earthquake Relief Fund:

Aid in Nepal

Aid in Nepal
  • The Relief Committee for Tibetans Affected in Nepal - established by the Tibetan communities in Nepal and chaired by the Tibetan coordinator in Nepal, the relief committee is overseeing the assistance to the families of those who passed away in the earthquake and medical expenses of those who were injured, and further ascertain the damages caused by the earthquake to homes, offices and schools for renovation and restoration.

  • Himalayan Society for Youth and Women Empowerment (HSYWE) - based in Kathmandu, HSYWE is providing tarps for tents, food items and aid to Tibetans and local communities in areas that are still lacking adequate relief.

  • Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) - FPMT is working on the ground to provide for the immediate and long-term needs of some of the monasteries and nunneries, and immediate relief and support to other Himalayan communities, particularly along the border.

  • Karuna-Shechen Foundation - established in Kathmandu through the Shechen clinic, Karuna-Shechen’s mobile medical clinics and camps have a team of professionals on the ground to provide essential medical, food and shelter assistance to remote communities and villages affected by the earthquake.

  • Chokgyur Lingpa Foundation - the Foundation is providing medical aid, tents and food to affected villages in Nepal.

  • American Himalayan Foundation – its focus is on long-term recovery and rebuilding in Nepal.

All of these organizations are known directly by ICT or by close connections of our organization. We are confident that they will use the support provided by ICT's Earthquake Relief Fund to provide immediate aid to those in need of assistance.

If you have not yet donated and would like to, it is not too late!

Contributions to the Fund continue to arrive from supporters across the world, including to ICT’s European offices where there has also been a strong response. We will be evaluating the situation and sending all additional funds collected to the relief work in Nepal.

Thank you again for joining in this effort to stand with our brothers and sisters in earthquake affected areas.

Sincerely,
Bhuchung Tsering
