Take Action for Tibet - Stand Up to China!
Thank you for adding your name to our petition to U.S. Secretary of State Clinton asking her to do everything in her power to fight for religious freedom and press for a more substantive dialogue on Tibet with China. There is power in numbers and, together, we truly can and do make a difference for Tibet and the Tibetan people.
I, along with other Tibet supporters:
Am grateful for President Obama's strong statement on Tibet at the U.S.-China Summit in January;
Appreciate the State Department's important findings on the situation in Tibet in its annual human rights and religious freedom reports;
Thank you for being a passionate voice for freedom of expression and freedom of assembly around the world, and for your full realization that these rights are fundamental to the Tibetan struggle.
But there is still more to be done. I, along with other Tibet supporters:
Encourage you to engage the People's Republic of China on recognizing and addressing the legitimate grievances of the Tibetan people;
Ask you to promote a truthful understanding of the situation in Tibet. It is unacceptable for China to contend that Tibetans are free to practice their relgion while criminalizing possession of a photograph of His Holiness the Dalai Lama;
Continue to call on the Chinese government to negotiate a solution on Tibet with the Dalai Lama.
Without the international community's efforts, the reality inside Tibet would be shrouded. Please urge the Chinese authorities to grant open access to Tibet in order to facilitate common understanding and promote reconciliation between the Tibetan and Chinese Peoples.
